“Steel wings over silent snow,
a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet cuts the morning sky.
Not over oceans where carriers roam,
but where old mountains rise too high.

From Meiringen Air Base it climbs through crystal air,
past cliffs that glow in alpine light.
The valleys watch, the peaks stand there—
ancient judges of the flight.

The Swiss Air Force flies quiet, sharp, and small,
a guardian carved from speed and flame.
No empire’s glory, none at all—
just watchful skies and steady aim.

And when the thunder fades away,
and echoes drift through rock and pine,
the mountains keep what jets can’t stay:
their silence… older still than time.”
